Fire safety self-check

Identify the property setup, review smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and escape routes, then organise actual checks and follow-up within the property.

Identify the property setup

Keep unknown details as “Not confirmed”. A “No” answer does not remove a requirement or change an observation.

7 property details not confirmed

Record each observation

Verify devices and locations, then check official requirements and device instructions. A normal appearance does not establish that a test was completed.

Smoke alarms

Review devices, sleeping-area locations, condition and test records across storeys. Follow applicable requirements and manufacturer instructions for testing and replacement.

Carbon monoxide alarms

Check fuel equipment, fireplaces, garages, equipment rooms, heated-air supply, storeys and sleeping areas. No appliance in the unit does not establish that CO requirements are inapplicable.

Escape routes and shared facilities

Note visible obstructions, exits and equipment. Shared fire protection systems and building requirements may need professional review.
